Jacen Russell-Rowe, Aron Dønnum and Casper Tengstedt scored after the break as Toulouse won 3-0 at Le Mans in Ligue 1 matchday 7, opening a gap on a side level with them before kick-off.
Toulouse produced a ruthless second-half display to win 3-0 at Le Mans on Friday night, 16 October 2026, in Ligue 1 matchday 7. After a goalless first half at the MMArena, Jacen Russell-Rowe scored within a minute of the restart, Aron Dønnum doubled the lead on 59 minutes and Casper Tengstedt, who had already seen one goal ruled out by VAR, added the third three minutes from time. The two clubs went into the evening with identical records, and this result opens a three-point gap between them. Here is our full match report.
Le Mans vs Toulouse match report: a game turned on its head after the break
Le Mans coach Videira chose an adventurous 3-1-4-2. Kocik started in goal, behind a back three of Djibril Sidibé, Samuel Yohou and Harold Voyer. Bretelle sat in front of the defence, with Lucas Buadés, Daouda Traoré, Vercruysse and Yasser Larouci across the midfield line, and Dame Guèye partnering Mafouta up front. Toulouse coach Jens Berthel Askou set his side out in a 4-2-3-1: Restes in goal, Messali, McKenzie, Rasmus Nicolaisen and Tapé in defence, Cristian Cásseres and Sigur as the midfield pivot, Dønnum, Tengstedt and Jørgensen behind the lone striker Russell-Rowe.
The first half was even and largely uneventful. Le Mans had slightly more of the ball and passed it well, but neither goalkeeper was seriously troubled, and referee Aurélien Petit did not need to show a card before the interval. The scoreboard read 0-0 at half-time.

Match statistics: Le Mans had the ball, Toulouse had the cutting edge
| Statistic | Le Mans | Toulouse |
|---|---|---|
| Expected goals (xG) | 0.82 | 1.74 |
| Possession | 53% | 47% |
| Total shots | 11 | 13 |
| Shots on target | 1 | 5 |
| Shots inside the box | 6 | 9 |
| Blocked shots | 4 | 1 |
| Goalkeeper saves | 2 | 1 |
| Total passes (accurate) | 561 (486) | 524 (446) |
| Corners | 2 | 2 |
| Fouls | 15 | 9 |
| Offsides | 0 | 3 |
| Yellow cards | 2 | 1 |
The most damning figure for the hosts is a single shot on target from 11 attempts. Le Mans had 53% possession and completed 486 passes, but most of that control came in areas where it did not hurt Toulouse; Restes only had to make one save all evening. Toulouse, by contrast, turned five efforts on target into three goals and generated 1.74 expected goals, more than double the home side's 0.82. Toulouse's three offsides also show how often they were looking to run in behind a high Le Mans line.
Tactical analysis: Le Mans' three-at-the-back exposed
Videira's 3-1-4-2 offered plenty of bodies in midfield and allowed the wing-backs, Buadés and Larouci, to push high. The flip side was the space it left behind them and either side of the back three. Toulouse's 4-2-3-1 was set up to exploit exactly that: Dønnum and Jørgensen were positioned to attack the channels, while Russell-Rowe stretched the defence with runs off the shoulder. The opening goal, seconds into the second half, came from precisely that kind of combination between Dønnum and Russell-Rowe.
Once behind, Le Mans changed personnel aggressively, introducing the experienced striker Habib Diallo, Calodat and Brahimi on the hour, and later Bamba and Boissé. The changes added numbers going forward but left the defence even more exposed, and Toulouse's discipline in the double pivot, with Cásseres and Sigur protecting the back four, meant the hosts rarely got a clean sight of goal. Askou managed the final half hour sensibly, refreshing his attack with Vossah and Vignolo and adding Koumbassa in defence.
Ligue 1 table: Toulouse break away from Le Mans
Before kick-off the two sides could not have been more closely matched. Le Mans were 14th and Toulouse 15th in Ligue 1, both on six points from six matches with one win, three draws and two defeats. Le Mans had the better goal tally (10-12) against Toulouse's 9-11.
The result changes that. Toulouse move on to nine points from seven games and their goal difference improves to plus one, while Le Mans stay on six with their goal difference sliding to minus five. For Toulouse, it is only their second win of the campaign, but its manner, a clean sheet and three goals away from home, should give them confidence. For Le Mans, back in the top flight, it is a reminder of how costly defensive lapses can be at this level.
Head-to-head context
Our head-to-head database records no recent meetings between the two clubs, a reflection of the years Le Mans spent outside the top flight. That makes this a fixture with little recent history to lean on, and Toulouse now hold the early bragging rights this season. The reverse fixture later in the campaign will offer Le Mans the chance to respond on Toulouse's own ground.
What's next
Toulouse will aim to build on their most complete performance of the season in matchday 8, while Le Mans must find a way to turn possession into shots on target. Follow every Ligue 1 fixture on our matches page.
