Nottingham Forest Stun Manchester City 3-1 in Premier League
Manchester City's sudden slump continued with a 3-1 away defeat to Nottingham Forest. Liam Delap scored twice to secure a vital win for the relegation-threatened hosts.
Manchester City suffered their third successive Premier League defeat on 7 November 2026, falling to a 3-1 away loss against Nottingham Forest. Having won their first seven games of the season, the visitors experienced another major setback in their campaign against a team fighting for top-flight survival.
Nottingham Forest Capitalise on Defensive Errors
Before the match kicked off, Nottingham Forest found themselves second bottom of the Premier League table and firmly embroiled in a relegation battle. Despite their perilous league position, the home side delivered a clinical performance to secure their first home league game win since April.
The breakthrough came when Jair Cunha aggressively closed down the visitors' defence. Cunha successfully dispossessed Josko Gvardiol before finishing the move to score the opening goal for Nottingham Forest. The early strike set the tone for a difficult afternoon for the visitors.
Liam Delap then took centre stage for the hosts. Delap scored twice to extend Nottingham Forest's advantage and ultimately ensure a 3-1 victory, rewarding the home supporters who had waited months to witness a league win at their own stadium.
City's Sudden Slump Continues
The result highlights a stark contrast in Manchester City's recent form. They began the current Premier League campaign in formidable fashion, winning their first seven games of the season. However, this latest away defeat means they have now lost three successive league matches, marking a significant and sudden slump.
Maresca Criticises First-Half Performance
Enzo Maresca did not hide his disappointment following the final whistle, pointing to a collective failure rather than blaming individual errors for the 3-1 defeat.
"Today I think [the problem] has been general,"
Maresca explained, highlighting the stark difference in application between the two sides during the opening period. He emphasised that his team failed to cope with the intensity of an opponent desperate for points to escape the relegation zone.
"It’s not about one player. In the first half we lost all the duels, all the contacts. Against this team, that is fighting relegation, if you don’t match them … it’s something we need to understand. In this kind of game, if you’re not able to win duels and second balls like in the first half, you struggle."
